Review: Georgina Brewis and Sam Blaxland's Student London: A New History of Higher Education in the Capital
Another review from me: on Georgina Brewis and Sam Blaxland's fascinating Student London: A New History of Higher Education in the Capital - I had a great time reading this inventive and attentive (and open access!) history of student life on the beach earlier in the summer 🌞
There was no room for this diversion in the review, but I was fortunate to be able to buy a copy on sale at the launch event. It's a very attractively printed book and the paper is super high quality presumably because of the number of images so I'm impressed physical copies are being sold for only £35. If one were be interested in reading the book cover to cover rather than for reference I did have an excellent time with the physical copy; I read it I think in a little over a week. Given its accessibility as an open access volume I suspect the book's reach and influence with students interested in this area will be considerable.
Unfortunately my physical copy would no longer be suitable for the coffee table of UCL senior management. It's a very dense book with the paper's gsm, and the binding did not agree with the sun, sand, or sunscreen.
